Hey all!
I have had many emails asking for additional information. I have tried to respond to as many as possible but I fear that my hotmail account is acting a bit squirrelly lately!
The brand I prefer is "Nature's Way", although a product from a similar company should suffice. The treatment I proscribed above is using "whole leaf" feverfew, nature crafted (meaning not mechanically processed; heat may damage the ingredients), capsules of 380mg each.
I would suggest avoiding any homeopathic cures, parthenolide concentrates, or any other mixture unlike the one listed above (and the link below).
Dosage: I am a 180 lb adult male. The directions on most feverfew herbal supplements will direct to take one capsule three times a day (with meals). For any adult of average size I would recommend taking TRIPLE this dosage for at least one week; that is three 380mg capsules of whole leaf feverfew herb WITH meals (and LOTS of water) three times a day for at least seven days. If after one week you have not begun to see results, continue for an additional week.
If headaches are beginning to become less frequent or less painful, reduce dosage to TWO 380mg (approx, varies brand to brand) capsules THREE times daily. Maintain this schedule for at least one more full week or longer as required.
After a few weeks headaches should be drastically improved. Once this point is reached it is then safe to slowly reduce dosage to the suggested "One capsule three times daily, preferably with food."
I have had emails concerning side effects and modifications for treatment based on body weight:
For an adult my size (180lbs), 1000 mg three times a day for the first week should suffice. If you are MUCH lighter or heavier, start your treatment with one less/more capsule per meal than I have suggested.
Side effects: I experienced NONE. A female friend of mine (probably 120lbs or so) took the SAME DOSAGE I did and experienced no side effects. The treatment has worked extremely well with all people I personally know.
If you DO experience unpleasant side effects, stop treatment immediately (of course!)
NOTE: Nature's Way indicates that feverfew is NOT recommended for pregnant or lactating women! Again, consult your physician before trying this or any other treatments.
