Missing Work -- Worried

This round of CHs has zapped my strength. I'm averaging 2-3 CHs a night (10 pm to 8 am mostly - between 8-10 in intensity.) This round started several months ago.
But by the time early morning rolls around, I am so exhausted from the pain. I need to sleep for a few hours to recover from the night.
Is this typical?

I have "shadows" during the day. But, luckily not the intense pain. So, when I finally get to work no one really can really see what I've been through during the night. I think my coworkers don't understand. Do you have any suggestions for how to balance work and CHs? I'm the main support for my family. I've run out of vacation time and can't afford to be out of work.
As if the stress from the CHs wasn't enough...now I'm also worried about my job.

What I don't understand about this illness is why I am unable to function during the day when the attacks are only at night. It seems to me that once 8am rolls around I should be able to get up and get dressed for work. But that's not the case. I'm exhausted from the pain and the "shadows" just linger and irritate me all day long. How do you describe the "shadows" to others? Not really in pain - but I know the pain is around the corner ready to hunt me down.
Thanks for listening!
