I usually try to take Excedrin to see if they will take away the headache first before I take the Maxalt...then it takes the Maxalt longer to work if I delay taking it. If I use Maxalt when I feel it coming on, it relieves the headache in a matter of 15 minutes. In fact, I have a bunion on my foot that it takes all that pain away for too!!! So it serves double duty!!
But I do worry about taking too many. I've read a couple of these replies that it doesn't seem to work after a few years. I've been taking them about a year and hope that's not true. But then, I was on Imitrex for several years and my headaches changed and the Imitrex didn't do anything for them and the doctor switched me to Maxalt.
