I've used prednisone (one week of tapering dossages) with lithium carbonate (three years) with side-effects only from lithium (slight tremor and some letargy), and this kept the Beast away until my MD tried to cut me off the lithium.
What followed was, of course a disaster; The Beast returned and lithium lost effectiveness, but that was not an inherent property of the medicines. It was just a bad decision on the part of my MD.
In essence, people should record the varied reactions, but should refrain from general condemnations of treatments, because they may yield good results with some of us.
