Seriously, I wonder how far research has gone into what pain does to the human body on a cellular level. Especially chronic pain.
I know people with ulcers have long been decried as sourpusses (which they are, mostly) and by the 70's medical maffia as ulcer personalities.
But lift the pain, and the sourpusses become little rays of sunshine - so to speak.
This may be emotional, OR neurological OR (preferably, for if it's easy it can't be right) both!
