The sympathetic nervous system, or autonomous nervous system or the parasympathetic nervous system are those things that are involuntary and control the most basic of human functions. The point is that clusters are "DEEP" - deep in the bowels of our hypothalamus - that is why they do not respond easily to meds or why you biofeedback doesn't work or why one can't relax one's way out of a cluster or why avoiding ceratin dietary stuff doesn't work and on and on .
Deep, primeval, primordial, basic, hypothalamic, brain stem.
