Hi Kyle,
My husband is a sufferer and he prefers the non-med approach to battling the beast (mainly because he has tried most meds and has found no relief).
The things he has found success with have been.
1. The Water Treatment (read the Water x 3 at the left for details). The secret is drinking enough of it and staying with it for a few days.
2. Ice. Applying those gel-filled ice packs on the back of his neck at the onset and then later directly on the pain. Keeps him calm (which is another big weapon - learning the ability to stay calm: thus keeping blood pressure in check, right?)
3. Gravol/Dramamine - before bed, 2-3 tabs and he can usually sleep through the night without an attack.
4. Oxygen - taken at the onset most usually pre-empts the attack, but not always. About a 75% success rate here, but we find it doesn't work as well at the peak of his cycle.
Some folks here have found success using Mushrooms (the "magic" kind). Type mushroom in the search button at the top right of the board and do some reading. Our friend, Flash, has done extensive research and, if you're careful, the success rate is pretty stunning.
Good luck, Kyle - pain free days ahead.
