I have had migranes for approximately 6-7 years. I've had an MRI, seen 2 nurologists, pain clinic physicans. I've tried every drug possible for migranes including beta blockers, mild antidepressants and the lates and the greatest drugs reported to "stop migranes in their tracks." Nothing has worked except Ultram. At one point in time I was taking Midrin with Vicodin and other drugs which I can't remember at this point in time. My GYN suggested me taking Ultram @ 2 50mg tablets with 1 100 mg tablet of norflex. It not only knocks it out but I can function. Unfortunately, my insurance doesn't cover it. It has baffled physicans (those obviously who haven't even had a migrane), why this combination of medications work.
Having migranes I've learned that every person who gets migranes, has to find his/her own combinations that work best for them and stick to it. Doctors will tell you that even though studies on migranes are still just that "studies", research is still not closer to finding a drug that works for "everybody".
I've fought with physicans who say that I should not be on this combinations of medications, and that it can be very addictive. I've been told the opposite by other physicans.
I still get migranes, but at least I can function by taking Ultram with Norflex. Pharmacists are elated that compared to what I was taking 5 years ago, I've come along way. They even say that I don't look as bad as I use to on the other medications.
