Verapamil works as a preventative not an abortive by preventing constriction.
Our blood vessels seek equilibrium. If they constrict they will then seek to dilate. Our vessels over-dilate.
No constriction equals no dilation.
As further evidence of my theory I would offer you this:
We all know that relaxation after stress/excitement has been implicated as a trigger of sorts. Exercise/stress/excitement causes constriction and then a resultant dilation. This resultant dilation causes the cluster.
