I have been taking Amitriptylene and Naproxen for 15 days. (see my message posted a few days ago). I am taking 1100 mg of Naproxen and 25mg of Amitriptylene at night. It has been effective for me. You will see that Linda B. responded to my message, she also uses this combination but at a higher dosage.
It is important for your husband to find what works best for him. Prednisone has always been worked great for me, but I can't take it long enough to get through the cluster period. Also Prednisone makes me nasty, fat and sleepless.
