I almost cried when I read your post. I feel for the both of you. I have chronic clusters and migraines also. Many folks have mixed syndromes also. I have a wonderful internist, who referred me to Mayo. They finally were unable to help me "long distance" after 2 trips up and referred me to the Diamond Clinic. They DO have many options for the complex cluster patient....though, no miracles. Histamine desentization works for approx. 80% of their patients. Unfortunately, it didn't work for me but I talked with many who have had success. Its a miracle for them. Ritalin has helped me along with other medications. I'm not cluster free yet but am heading in the right direction.
Continue to learn everything you can. This page will provide you with support and great treatment options. My personal advice is to find a headache specialist who will LISTEN. I've done the emergency room trips. I can take enough Morphine or Demerol IV to stop most people's breathing! Narcotics generally do not provide great relief to a severe cluster. My internist will give me Compazine (a nausea medication) intravenous that will relieve the pain and give a day or two reprieve. There definitely are options out there. I wish you both the very best.
