I asked the question to debunk the idea that the hypothalmus held the key to the root cause of CH, as many seem to believe. It is likely to be involved in the process, somewhat like the clock in a time-bomb being accused of causing the explosion, but is not the reason for the boom-boom lights-go-out situation.
The texts I have studied indicate that vascular dialation causes pain due to stretched nerves surrounding the blood vessel. There may of course be many predecessor events that eventually lead to the dialation, including constriction to set-up an actual O2 starvation situation.
