The nurse was feeding you a real line... Medications are absorbed both ways. IV can be advantageous because it has a faster onset but then the duration is much shorter. IV narcotics are easier to titrate to achieve comfort. Many nurses are not comfortable giving IV morphine. (Can you tell I'm a nurse and worked in ICU for many years) Anyway, typically Morphine is a better drug for pain control. Dosage is also the KEY....everyone has a different tolerance. Also, another important thing; narcotics are central nervous system depressants. They change our perception to pain...they don't cure it. Any CH sufferer can vouch for that. Best Wishes...
