Here's some info you missed. Dougl uses WebTV at home. WebTV is an 'internet appliance' rather than a computer. He can't download AIM because he has no hard drive to download to. Everything he does must be web-based, rather than 'puter-based.
MSN Messanger is also free and easily downloaded from the MicroSoft site. Apparently, MS has enabled a web-based MSN Messanger so that it can be access by WebTV'rs like doug.
Fraid if we want to chat with dougl, we'll have to get Messanger, since he can't get AIM or ICQ.
