5HTP is the precursor to 5HT (serotonin). I've read that taking 5HTP with large doses of vitamin B6 causes the 5HTP to be converted to central nervous system (brain) serotonin. Without the B6 a majority of the 5HTP is converted to serotonin in the gastro-intestinal system (5HT is found in the CNS & GI systems and in the blood cells.
