Propranolol is one of the first drugs one should use for the treatment of migraines...but has also been shown to be helpful in clusters.
Side effects usually are related to the slowing of the heart rate. It blocks the chemical used to the body to speed the heart up...so your heart will not beat as quickly as it should when you exert yourself. In most people...the amount of slowing is not enough for them to notice it. Others, however, will feel dizzy...and possibly pass out. Side effects are reversable, though (Unless you hurt yourself if you pass out). Just be careful the first few days you are on it.
