Wouldn't it be best to discuss this with your doctor? I am always afraid to take more medication than the doctor or literature suggests.Imitrex wasn't given to me until I had echogram, carotid artery scan, chest x-ray, blood tests, etc. It is not tolerated by some, as you know. An overdose over a long period of time might be harmful, I don't know, but I would ask a medical person and be sure you are generally healthy in heart and lungs.
Regarding rebounds, I have had good luck with Imitrex holding off an attack for 20 hours, but it is impossible to know whether the Imitrex gets the credit or whether it was just not time for the next 3-4 a night. It is not intended to prevent attacks so I cannot figure whether reboud applies here or not. Like you I would get the prescribed amount of attacks whether I used Imitrex or not.
