A number of things led me to try this last time. I had noticed over the years that after being hammered with a 2 hour 10, and gulping ercaf, I would get sick to my stomach. The act of heaving followed by dry heaves would end the headache in a couple of minutes. It got to where I would do the finger down the throat thing to make myself barf. I always figured it was the physical exertion that did it.

I also noticed once, about 20 years ago, when I got hit at work. I had ridden a bike to work so I jumped on the bike, along with the growing HA, and headed for home. Within 4 or 5 blocks the HA was gone.

When I first signed the guestbook here, Jan 6, 1999, there was a guy right before me that said he ran up a hill behind his house. When he got to the top the HA was gone. Had been running the hill for 20 years. So I thought, what the heck.

I figured squats would be good because they use the big muscles of the legs. The blood would go away from my head to supply the leg muscles with O2. I woke one noight with a HA starting. I grabbed the tab of cafergot off the night table, where I always keep a couple for easy access, and then headed down stairs. I did about 30 squats which is enough to get this old fart blowin. I then slapped an ice bag on the back of my neck and started deep breathing. The HA was gone in about 5 minutes and the cafergot kept it from comming back.

This became my routine for the remainder of the cluster, 60+ HAs, and it worked every time. I was also taking verap @360mg/day and ercaf tabs but the exercise would abort each HA.

I've seen this mentioned in some articles as an effective abortive for some people. Maybe I'm just one of the lucky ones, of course after 30 years of not so lucky I guess I was due.

lyg
Bob P
