I am currently on both stadol and Imitrex. Like Todd said,
Imitrex works to actually block the headache. The only side
effect that I noticed is drowsiness.
Ask your doctor about Amerge. I just started on it (to replace
the Imitrex), and it has been wonderful. With the Imitrex,
it was hit or miss whether the headache would work its way through
anyway. With Amerge, the headache is always stopped.
I also don't use needles, but the pills for both Amerge and Imitrex
work. The Imitrex took anywhere from 45-90 minutes to work, the Amerge
consistently kicks in around 50 minutes.
