Dave, your quest for some understanding of this suffering reminds me of a discusion a friend of mine and I used to have in college. He had a rare form of aplastic anemia that he ended up dying from and we both had these crazy lives. We used to say that God never allows us to go through more than we can handle, therefor God must have a lot of respect and trust in us if he thinks we can handle all of this! We figured we must have been 2 of his favorites!
