....for not presuming to speak for me. However, since I deny it, I’m puzzled how you can
say, even in relationship to yourself, that there is "undeniably" a case “for believing in the
Judeo-Christian God”.
I’m not so pessimistic as to think that there is an “unexplainable” aspect to our suffering -
it is merely (currently) unexplained. If we claim it is inexplicable, we condemn ourselves
to this pain for ever, and devalue the good work of those in the medical professsion who
are trying to find a cure. Why should we bother to try and help, eg. by joining OUCH, if
we are really just caught in a titanic battle of wills between two supernatural entities?
The logical flaw in the argument revolves around the fact that if the purpose of the pain
is to drive us away from God, why should it attack a lifelong atheist like myself - surely a
wasted effort on the part of a putative Devil!
I do respect your views, and if they help you or others - fine. Please remember,
however, that by posting them as a theory, you open them up to exactly the same sort of
detailed critique that one might give to infection, inflammation, sugar overdose or
butterfly farts! That may be why we have had a sort of moratorium on religious posts for
a considerable, and rather welcome, time.
Keep smiling,
Simon
