Only ever taken one med for my clusters and that’s Verapamil (240mg SR). I'm chronic and it works a treat for me (its supposed to work better for episodic sufferers). I would say that it has relived 95% of my headaches over the past 8 months. I love the stuff and personally I cannot recommend it enough. However, it does not work for all people. There are times when it appears to stop working and I start thinking about upping my dose or trying a different med. However, patience has constantly paid off and it has always kicked in again and took away the pain.
I am of the opinion that people may give up on Verapamil, or raise their dose, too quickly. So if you take it and its effect starts to wear off, or it doesn’t appear to work at first, give it as much time as you can.
I have also never taken an abortive med like Oxygen, Imitrex, or Lidocaine . . .etc (I went three years not knowing what the headaches were so I didn’t know how to abort them!). I may be talking rubbish here but I feel that it is because of this that the Verapamil works so well for me. No rebound headaches and all that!!!!!
Hope this helps and best wishes,
G.
