Elaine, Greenwich Mean Time is called that because the zero meridian on the globe passes through Greenwich, England. That is the standard time used by airlines, etc., so that everyone references to the same time, no matter where they are. Usually, it is referred to as, for example, 2200 Zulu, which means 10:00 P.M. in England. If that's not confusing enough, we then throw in summer and winter and daylight savings, just in case anyone was beginning to figure out what time it is.
