I made several business trips to the UK in the early 90's. Spent several days in London, and on my off days traversed the city rather extensively.

The air quality was no worse than any US city, and far better than many (NY and LA, for example). Overall cleanliness (litter, etc) is far superior to typical US cities.

On a week-long auto trip through the Midlands, I spent each day (and night) in a different town. These smaller villages and towns had nice 'country' air.

My only regret was being recalled suddenly, forcing me to decline an invitation from a Scottish collegue who had asked me to his home for a weekend of pub-hopping and an attempt to sample every single-malt scotch produced. Thankfully, the duty-free shop at Heathrow had a generous variety, and I was able to bring home a few previously unknown to me.

KTSSU,
T
