You should seriously consider seeing a headache specialist. I was mis-diagnosed as Trigeminal Neuralgia by a neurologist reputed to be the best in the metro Detroit area. After 3 attempts to suggest to her that it was chronic cluster, I went on my own to the Michigan Headpain and Neurological Institute (MHNI)in Ann Arbor, MI. At the first visit, Dr. Gordon recognized classic chronic cluster, put me on Verapimil (360mg to 420mg / day) and I have been cluster free for 21 months.
All the Tegretol did was make me lethargic and slow - but didn't affect the clusters. I was so out of it they just didn't seem as bad.
Try to find a good headache specialist, not just a neurologist.
Good Luck - and hope you find relief.
