Hi Nick,
Verapamil's effect was explained to me once by my doctor -- he says it's a calcium channel blocker that tends to stabilize the walls of the smooth cranial blood vessels, keeps them from expanding or contracting too much. Since the thinking is that our pain comes from over-stretched expanded vessels, then stabilizing them should prevent or reduce the severity of attacks.
Works for some people, doesn't work for some. If anyoone has heard a different theory, I'd like to hear it too. It's been working for me the past couple of years.
