I only experience icepicks when I'm reaching kip 9-10. It's part of what defines that level for me and is the ultimate pain for me. They come in "spurts" and then receed for half an hour or so then return. I tend to have single daily attacks of 1-3hr duration, exceptionally up to 8 hours. Unfortunately the longer attacks rend to be the most severe.
