I dont believe this has been touched upon before, I think youre right. However the qualifier "rather" does seem appropriate as it dilutes the purity of its object. This "less than" essence is neccessary as we do not intend to imply its complete meaning or its purity of essence. My personal experience of its pure version occured only once as a child of five years, when I woke up to find my anus being extracted through the Larynx while simultaneously achieving amputational diahrea. In this case its pure unqualified version would suffice.
