Hang tough, Brian! You can use hot showers, try "the water" treatment, ice packs, whatever mitigates the pain even a little bit. Then find a new doctor. They're not all as callous as the one you described, but I bet we've all been in your shoes before. Ask around and find one with a reputation for being responsive, then take him some of the ideas you see on this message board. They don't all work the same for all people, but there's something in here somewhere that can help you get on the right track!
