It seems to me from reading this board that there are different PATTERNS of CH. At one extreme there is the "many a day of shorter duration" through to the "one a day of longer duration" with maybe a continuim in between. I belong to the latter group and while the longer headaches, in my case around 8 hours, only occur about 20% of the time, they certainly do occur and at times reach the dreaded kip 10. Fortunately for me, at that level I'm not capable of any logical thought otherwise I'm pretty sure I would'nt be here.
There is one advantage ie one is 80% sure that once the CH is over you can "relax" until the next day.
