Thank you for your kind emails to me.
I was indeed shocked by the virulence of the response to my message asking that we not post
explicit sexual jokes (by the way, I have always liked Don Pearson's posts and think he is
very clever).
I thought that my point was clear. I have no personal qualms at all about sexual humor.
My concern was about our public face, given that thousands of desperate people are turning
to this forum for help, that many of them are not native speakers of English (one European
who has corresponded with me struggles with a dictionary to read the info), and that it is
the only central place where one can get a full range of sound information about our
dreadful affliction.
That I was called an idiot and asked to leave the board for expressing this thought
is truly incomprehensible to me.
I was born in France, and I work as a translator, so I tend to be quite aware of the fact
that we have a large international audience, even though the posts come principally from
a small group of people in the U.S.
I didn't respond earlier, not only because the attacker failed to give his email address,
but also because the experience left me quite devastated.
So Ted, Nancy, your extraordinarily kind messages were a balm to me,
and I thank you with all my heart.
