Hi Steve, I was first misdiagnosed with trigeminal neuralgia, and given the wrong treatment for nearly a year. When I couldn't stand the pain any longer my GP sent me to a neurologist. He told me right away that it was cluster headache, because the pain traveled in an upward direction. He said that the pain of tri. gem. moves in a lateral direction. I don't know if this is fact or not, but its what he told me. the direction the pain traveled was a good indicator, up and down for cluster, sideways for tri gem
