I had never heard of it either until I got a copy of the Auburn Plainsman (campus newspaper) today. What a coincidence.
They call it the "date rape" drug. "It was developed in 1989 for a body builder for the use of inflaming the muscles to make the body look bigger," the newspaper says. "It is sold as a dietary supplement and advertised to build muscles, improve physical performance, enhance sex, reduce stress, and induce sleep.
The FDA has asked for its recall in dietary supplements." But "Reviverant G, a powder form of GBL,is (still) sold to be mixed in drinks."
It can cause "nausea, vomiting, seizures, unconsciousness and difficulty breathing. Mixing with alcohol doubles its effect and people might go into a coma instead of passing out. It can also be found in hair spray, circuit board cleaners and soy products."
Now we both know what that stuff is. I don't think any CH sufferers should try it.
