I understand and know that guilty feeling all too well. No children here but I see the hopeless/helpless look in my friends and family's eyes during a CH cycle. They want to help but don't know how. My boyfriend's daughter is 10 years old and she understands that when I have a CH that I need time to myself.
I still have the guilty and "I've let everyone down again" type feelings but not as frequently as I did when the CHs first started. The more guilt I felt, the worse the pain level got. Now I try to focus and think about getting through the pain as soon as possible. I've learned what I need to do to take care of myself so I can, if possible, take care of my responsiblities at a later time. If I don't feel strong enough to get things done after a CH, they wait until I have the energy, patience and time. That's the funny thing about responsibilities...they never go away!
Don't be hard on yourself. That only makes things worse.
Best wishes to you.
