Can't give you any advice on acupuncture but here's what we did with water. Drink one glass every half hour (or every hour if that's all you can stand) while awake and then if you're awakened in the night, another glass. Doing this for two days diminished my husband's cycle to almost nothing. Of course, you should limit your salt intake in general. Salt is believed to increase the blood pressure which, in turn (in my husband's case anyways)make the attacks worse.
Also, we have used icepacks on the back of the neck, inhaling cold air and inhaling pure oxygen with good relief.
