I would only add that ergot is a fungus affecting rye and the cause of the medieval disease St. Anthony's Fire, referring to the pain of vasoconstriction so acute thatit can cause gangrene and abortion.
The list of side effects of ergotamine and methysergide is indeed long (and exclusively unpleasant)and use of either without medical supervision would be unwise, to apply my usual understatement
