Because my insurance company will one pay for ONE imitrex injection or ONE pack of imitrex nasal per MONTH, I've had to suffer through the "lesser" beast w/ nothing (as to save the med's for the ones harder to handle). I realized while under attack I like to press my temple up against anything slighty sharp: ie...door knob, corner of night stand, corner of bathroom sick, etc. Well, what I discovered works well for me is to fill three or four zip-lock baggies w/ Ice and keep in the freezer ready for the attacks. I'll lay down in bed w/ my temple on the bag of ice (no towel) and feel around for a sharp edge of ice and press my head into it. I feel that the cold pain of the ice lessen the pain enough to where I can lay still and chant, "I'm falling asleep," over and over again until I awaken w/ a head of soak hair and a drenched pillow. This really works the best for me when I'd rather not take the medicine.
I hope this helps someone else out.
