If you already know for sure your starting a cycle and you have clusters for sure, the Prednisone in short term is to stop the current cluster from starting or to abate it and then a mainainence med like Verapamil seems in order, not knowing what you have tried already it makes it hard to recommend any certain treatment.
Some people benifit from the ergomines and cafergot, If you are affected by drinking a cup of coffee then the cafergot might be better than the prednisone, My self I could drink a pot of coffee or do 100 sublingual cafergot and it doesn't affect me or the headaches.
