For about 11 years I have experienced periodic bouts of sudden, stabbing pains, always on the same side of my head. A visit with a neurosurgeon soon after they began assured me that I wasn't in serious trouble, but that they were definitely vascular headaches. He added that he was relatively certain that they were caused by a vein on the outside of my skull. I've read the info about clusters and wonder if that could be the diagnosis. I don't fit the profine exactly, though. I have no nasal stuffiness or tearing, and these pains only last for a few seconds. They do reoccur in groups. I guess I was just wondering if there were "a-typical" cluster headaches.
