Recall a bad CH in Chicago

Left U of Chicago at 3:00 PM, 97 F outside calm day, took four hours to get from the "U" to north of O'Hare before the stop and go finally broke up, zillions of 18 wheelers puffing out black diesel smoke with the usual 12-14 lanes (both ways) of stalled traffic with literally thousands of cars pumping out CO, HC, H2SO4, H2S, and so forth, triggered one hell of a CH that wouldn't break untill I hit Wisconsin, but already completely exhausted by then, how do Chicagoians put up with that every day?
