he was blessed with Crohn's disease, darn it, his highest doses were 140 mg per day, alternate day therapy is the best, but his face puffs up and he gets those pimples all over, had joint pains, osteoporosis is the worse side effects, he had to take plenty of calcium supplements and at times fine an alternative to give his body a rest where he lost a lot of weight (6'2" tall down to 101 pounds), another major bad side effect his the inability to fight off simple colds or the flu, he caught the flu in mid December and still has it, his doctor thinks he should get over it in another month, each person reacts differently to this medication, when my son is on 30 mg or less, he does not get the face puffing, 40 mg is the magic number for him, I had good control over my kind of Ch's by taking just 5 mg on Monday and another 5 on Thursday, would get managable headaches, but nothing that I couldn't shake off with a little O2, so I think the effect of this medication is highly individualized, the major key is to take as little as possible as the effects of this medication wear off quickly meaning you have to take a lot more to get the same results, we use Deltasone, the brandname, price is around $8.00 for a bottle of 100 mg, not much difference between the generic brands, we got soem Schein once from Walgreens, and that stuff was crap, I don't mine calling crap crap when we run across it, not very scientific answer as this is a highly varible medication with each individual, know a person that got very ill just taking 2 mg of the stuff, to me if 10 mg alternate day won't control the headaches, you should be looking at something else, but this is just my unqualified opinion so don't blast me.
