I'm a 38 year old episodic sufferer. Oxygen, ice-packs and the occasional Imitrex inhaler are my preferred treatments. I don't think I'm alone when I say "I hate these things". Maybe 6 months ago, I read a post from a guy who upon experiencing his first shadow of a cluster, drank a little mushroom tea. I don't do drugs but what he said intrigued me greatly. He said he drank the tea, went to bed and woke up the next morning a little foggy but "shadowless". I think he's been in remission now for a couple of years. I have read about and understand the relationship between psilocybin and seratonin. My current cycle started about three weeks ago. In desperation,I talked to a friend of mine and was able to get a hold of some of these mushrooms for the purpose of making some tea to see if it would abort the cycle. I tried this last Wednesday night (with my wife's support -- big suprise)and was suprised that I didn't feel anything. I gues I expected the walls to talk to me or something. Anyway, I went to bed and was cluster free for the entire night. Since that time, I've still had the headaches but they've been mild (3-6 kip) and I've been able to get rid of them using ice packs and O2 within 15 or 20 minutes. Here's my quandry. Evidently, the mushrooms I got were about 2 years old and had lost their effectiveness. My friend is now able to get me some "fresh" ones. In the interest of getting rid of even the "milder" headaches, I'm considering another cup of tea. Is this worth a shot? Am I nuts? Am I barking up the wrong tree? Again, I DON'T do drugs. These things kind of scare me, to be honest but like the rest of you, I'm willing to try anything to kill the CH's.
