The Imitrex Injection is the only relief when I wake up to a full-blown 10 in the middle of the night...no choice (oxygen helps take the edge off). I do the injection and then sit back and wait because I know it is coming....I get much worse and the pain is more intense soon after the injection, but I know it is going to work...It is the only thing to me that fully works (except for the heavy-duty narcotics which takes too long to get to an ER). However, you can only do 2 per 24-hour period....whether it is injection or spray. Some people take part of an injection and that works.
I take the injections with me, especially traveling...The spray I use when I am at a function that I can't lay down somewhere...I have to lay down after the injection...It is at this point that I pray I don't have a stroke because I know I am very near that point. That is my worst fear that I will have a stroke during a CH....My guy, the very first time he saw me full-blown this past year, said my face was drawn and he was afraid I was getting to that point then and there...My BP & Pulse are extremely high during an attack....part of it is due to pain and the rest is due to shear panic...because I know I am in for a rough time and am so scared. Before my son was here, now he is in Atlanta and I am all alone. Pain free since September thank goodness.
The spray works also, just not as fast...I have never taken the pills....When mine are full blown, I need relief quickly because the pain is so intense...
I have the DHE-45 also, but was too afraid to use it....afraid it wouldn't work and then I wouldn't be able to use the Imitrex then...Can't mix the two.
Just my personal experience....not true for all. We each have different experiences...so take this for what it's worth and the spirit it was given.
Painfree Days and Peaceful Sleep
