I was told that Ergotamine was taken off the market because people were losing their fingers. Don't laugh. I guess it can cause you to lose circulation in the fingers.
I have switched to Ercaf, which works very well, but I sometimes awaken at night with my fingers and hands numb and now I have high bloo pressure. I definitely need to find something else, but nothing else has ever worked so well.
