Amerge is in the same family as Imitrex- a triptan. The main difference is Amerge takes longer to take effect and effects last longer. Imitrex, especially injection , is short-acting. It is hoped, I think, because Amerge stays in your system longerwould prevent new headaches(ie. rebound) I have tried it with no effect didn't deliver the "punch " Imitrex inj. does so never releived my headache , also you can't combine Amerge with outer vasoconstricting drugs such as Imitrex. Amerge only comes in pill form- can't find my receipt but I want to say 18 tabs for $ @ $360 ? versus Imitrex at $114 for 2 injections.
