(That is good American slang, is it not?) I think you are right for considering something else for a maintenance medication. This site is full of suggestions.
I seem not to respond to a lot of medicines that are successful for other, like verapamil. Having chronic cluster headaches since age 11, I have tried much of everything. I still strongly prefer nortriptyline (Pamelor). For me, it goes right into the source of my pain unlike anything else. It is worth considering.
