Haven't posted much for a while. I have had persistent 24-a-day pain in the 3 to 5 range between my regular cluster episodes for about 4 and half years now. My wife left me last fall. The energy required to stay on top of the pain leaves me exhausted all the time--so much so that I feel that I losing some capabilities at work.
About a year ago I asked myself this same question, What makes me happy? I set about including more happiness in my life.
I always wanted to learn hand drums so I signed up for conga lessons and *love* playing the drums. I love working with children so now I volunteer teaching congas to kids at my daughter's school.
When my wife left last fall she did admit that I have been the primary parent so my delightful and challenging 10-going-on-16-year-old daughter lives with me. That makes me happy.
I just got a second puppy. After living for 16 years with someone who didn't like animals I have rediscovered that I'm crazy about them. I get home from work and here are these two little creatures that are just about to explode 'cause they are so happy to see me.
These are a few things. I have noticed, dealing with my off-season pain, if I focus on what makes me happy I don't care quite as much that I hurt.
