Hello Jim-
An unfortunate welcome to the club. By in
large you have NO control over your headaches.
I think perhaps your trying to figure out
why you have headaches and are looking to
blame some incident in your past. Nothing
in your past caused you to start having
headaches and it doesn't make you abnormal.
If in fact you do have cluster headaches
your dealing with one of the most painful
conditions known to humans. To endure
this much pain makes you no less of a man
than any of us.
Treating your headaches with Advil is like
treating a forest fire with a glass of
water. Lithium is but one of many drugs
used to treat cluster headaches. Many of
us take Verapamil as a preventative but
that doesn't mean we have heart trouble or
high blood pressure.
I'm hard pressed to believe your Doctor
"knows" about cluster headaches if all
he prescribed you was Lithium. Any mention
of Imitrex, Ercaf, Oxygen?
Above all Jim, Cluster headaches are NOT
psychological. We view our condition as
a disease. Not a terminal disease but one
that needs to be treated from time to time.
I hope you explore the links at the left
of the page and read as many posts as you
can.
Wishing you freedom from pain-Phil
