I was counciled at work just about every year beacause my absenteeism exceeded the norm. "Oh, still having headaches?" was the question. I also have back problems and really enjoyed it when the back went south and I missed almost 3 weeks. "Headache?" "No you @#$%, I don't need a @#$%&*& cane to deal with headaches." I said. Solved the equation last June. I took early retirement. Now, when the beast draws back into it's lair after a long night, I don't sweat any explainations, I can sleep 'til the next sunrise if needbe (and possible); and the main person in my life truely understands the beast and gives me the space I need when I need it.
