The brain, of course, responds by increasing blood pressure and expanding the blood vessels in the supposedly deprived area, stretching the encircling nerves and causing the head to bang itself into the nearest hard surface. Perhaps the preventive drugs tell the brain that the hypothalamus is lying. Perhaps the abortives temporarily compress the blood vessels and that's why they expand again and again. Or, perhaps the hypothalamus simply grows long talons that pierce the eyeball and rip large chunks of bone from the inside of the skull. Works for me.
